Medicinal Plants
In Amboori Grama Panchayat, which is situated in the valley region of Agasthyarkoodam, a large variety of medicinal plants were found in abundance in the past. Neelakoduveli, Neelayamari, Shankhupushpam, Velipparuthi, Shatavari, Kurunthotti, Garudakkodi, Naruneendi, Murivunakki, Aanachuvaduthangi, Kaithonni, and Keezhar Nelli, among others, were commonly found in large quantities.
Medicinal plants in quantities of several tonnes were taken away for the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. Vattupullu, which is required for the production of grass oil, was also cultivated extensively in this area.
However, the clearing of forest areas and other such activities led to the destruction of medicinal plants. Nevertheless, many of them have not yet disappeared completely. They deserve to be protected and conserved.
